Ok so I am currently detoxing. I am STARVING!!!!! I am doing a 10 day cleansing smoothie detox thingy! I am so cranky and grouchy and irritable right now!! Oh my God, I want to eat so badly right now.
Detoxing is a great thing, it really helps to get rid of the sugar cravings, especially if you can make it past the first few days. Those are always the hardest, at least for me. T
The benefits of detoxing are really rewarding, they are as follows:
- Gives your digestive system a break
- Relieves Bloating
- Eliminates cravings for sugar and salt
- Clearer complexion
- Weight loss, in most cases
There are really no downsides to it. You will want to eat badly…….badly! You will think of everything under the sun to eat, stuff you haven’t thought about in weeks, even months! You see our bodies are like spoiled children, and like children they want what they want, when they want it. Depending on the child, they will go to any length to get it! It is the parents / adults responsibility to set boundaries for the child. Well it’s the same concept for us as adults. We need boundaries in our lives. As we become adults, we tend to let ourselves ignore those boundaries that we so need in our lives. When we don’t have that we have a tendency to be out of control in so many aspects of our lives.
When establishing guidelines and boundaries, we have to be strong enough to tell ourselves NO!! We literally have to picture ourselves as children who are wanting something that we as the adult knows is not good for them. We become responsible, concerned for the well being of the child because we know what’s best for the child. What happens to that when we are the one who needs to be told NO to? We typically disregard and have our way. But of course there are always consequences to our actions.
In closing, detoxing is great, but you have to make up your own mind as to what your expectations are during this detox period. Once you do that, stick with it, it will be over before you know it. Read, pray, finish a project that you have been meaning to complete for awhile. Limit your social activities. Think about it….it’s only 10 days out of your entire life! How many “10 days” have gone by in your life and you are still pretty much in the same space.
Go for it, you will feel so much better, and it really is a great sense of accomplishment when you’ve completed it and your body will thank you for it. Also, it helps you to jump start a clean eating regimen.
